What this site keeps
Reading the site
No cookies, no tracking scripts, and nothing is sent to any other company when you read a page. A video is fetched from YouTube only if you press play on it.
The web server notes each visit in a log, with the visitor's network address. That log is deleted after 14 days. From it we keep only daily counts: how many visitors, which pages, which sites linked here, and which countries visits came from. The country is looked up on our own server from a published list (DB-IP); the address itself is not kept. When you reach the end of a chapter after spending time on it, the page tells the counter that a chapter was read (and, once, that the book was finished); that is a count too, with nothing about you in it. The counts contain no addresses.
Some things stay in your own browser and are never sent to us: your place in the journey, your passport and bookmarks, any artwork you have turned, and the copy of the journey your browser keeps so it can be read offline (you can remove it by clearing this site's data in your browser).

We keep your email address (for login codes, and for notes about new books and chapters only if you ask for them; never shown), the name you choose, your answer to "What brought you here?" (read by Coordinators only), your posts, and a picture if you upload one. Hidden camera and location data is removed from uploaded pictures.
One cookie keeps you logged in. It holds a random ticket and nothing about you.
Login codes are sent by email through a mail provider.
You can delete your account on My account. Your email and name are removed; your posts stay, shown as "Someone".
